Are PEPs the Next Frontier for 401(k) Plans?

Presented by: Securian Financial

Date and Time: Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 3-4 EST

Speaker:

Ted Schmelzle, Senior Director, Retirement Solutions

Session Description:

Sponsoring a retirement plan often takes specialized knowledge and adds time-consuming administrative and fiduciary obligations to an employer’s already busy workload. A unique solution to tackle this problem can be found in a new type of plan called a Pooled Employer Plan (PEP). While the availability of Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs) has been around for many years, MEPS did not enjoy broad adoption and have been viewed by many employers as confusing and risky. However, the creation of PEPs by the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act of 2019 (SECURE Act) should make unrelated employers participating in a single plan more accessible and attractive.
